After lunch, everyone began heading back to their classes, but Aria didn't take a single step forward.

Avni and Saavi turned around, confused.

"Aria, chalo class mein," Saavi said gently.

("Aria, come to class.")

"Late ho jayenge."

("We'll be late.")

"Mujhe crowd ki aadat nahi hai... it's too much," Aria said, her eyes fixed on the mass of students moving like waves toward the corridor.

("I'm not used to crowds... it's too much.")

"Ohh achha. Koi nahi, do minute ruk jaate hain," Avni replied casually, flashing a small smile.

("Oh okay. No problem, we'll wait for a few minutes.")

Aria blinked in surprise.

They didn't leave her.

They actually waited.

For a moment, something unfamiliar stirred in her chest-warmth.

Once the corridor cleared, the three girls quietly made their way back to class.

The rest of the day passed slowly, filled with new faces, new rules, and silent adjustments. Aria didn't speak much, but she listened-tried to memorize every small detail like it might help her blend in.

Finally, the last bell rang.

Students stood up, chaos bursting in every direction as the teacher exited. But Aria stayed rooted to her seat.

She didn't have to say a word this time-Avni and Saavi stayed too, instinctively.

"Chalo, Aria," Saavi said as she stood up, slinging her bag over her shoulder.

("Let's go, Aria.")

They walked out together, this time more naturally. More like... friends.

At the school gate, Avni and Saavi turned to her.

"Tum kaise jaogi ghar? Anyone coming to pick you up?" Avni asked, glancing around.

("How are you going home?")

"Woh... meri dadi aayengi," Aria replied softly.

("My grandmother will come.")

The girls nodded.

Soon, an elderly woman arrived-eyes kind, smile gentle. Aria quietly walked up to her.

"Bye, Aria! See you tomorrow!" Saavi called out with her usual brightness. "We hope your first day went good... with us."

Aria gave a small but genuine smile. "Bye."

She left.

A minute later, Akshat and Shivansh arrived on their bikes.

"Thoda aur late nahi ho sakte the?" Avni scowled as they approached.

("Couldn't you be any later?")

Both girls hopped onto their respective brothers' bikes without much fuss.

"Aree duty thi na, isliye," Akshat replied, flashing a sheepish grin.

("I had duty, that's why.")

And just like that, they headed home-

one group with a little more laughter,

and one girl with a little more hope.

At Aria's Home
Later that evening...

The house was quiet.

Aria sat cross-legged on the floor of her room, the faint hum of the ceiling fan filling the silence. Her schoolbag lay open beside her, books untouched.

Instead, her fingers carefully unfolded a tissue-wrapped leaf-the one that had landed in her lap under the neem tree.

She placed it inside the back cover of her diary.

A new school.

A new leaf.

Her grandmother entered with a plate of freshly cut fruit.

"Beta, thak gayi hogi na? Pehle kuch kha le," she said softly.

("You must be tired, child. Eat something first.")

Aria looked up and nodded. "Bas thoda sa, Dadi."

("Just a little, Dadi.")

Her Dadi sat beside her, gently brushing back strands of her hair.

"School kaisa tha?"

("How was school?")

Aria hesitated... then finally whispered,

"Theek tha. Better than I expected."

("It was okay. Better than I expected.")

Her Dadi smiled warmly.

"Wahan achhe bacche hain?"

("Are the kids there good?")

Aria thought of Saavi's bubbly energy.

Of Avni's sass.

Of Akshat's quiet concern.

Shivansh's observant calm.

Even Rohan's wary gaze.

She nodded slowly. "Haan... kuch toh hain."

("Yeah... some of them are.")

Dadi chuckled softly.

"Koi friend banaya?"

("Did you make any friends?")

Aria didn't respond right away.

She simply held the plate a little tighter. Then murmured,

"Shayad..."

("Maybe...")

Her grandmother placed a comforting hand on her back.

"Achhi baat hai, beta. Give yourself time. Trust them if your heart feels they're good... but don't give all of it away too quickly."

Aria didn't reply.

But as she ate quietly, her thoughts circled around that one word Saavi had used earlier.

Friend.

She wanted to believe it. Desperately.

"Achha, ab batao, kya kya hua aaj?" Dadi asked, settling beside her.

("Okay, now tell me everything that happened today.")

Aria smiled faintly and laid her head in her lap, eyes closed.

Slowly, she told her everything-from Saavi's warm welcome and Avni's sass, to Akshat's help in the hallway, Shivansh's quiet support when Rohan's questions became too sharp.

Her Dadi listened, humming in between.

"They sound like good kids," she said when Aria finished.

"And what about Rohan?" Aria asked softly.

Dadi chuckled.

"Not everyone will open their heart on the first day, bachaa. Maybe Rohan is just... guarded. He doesn't know you yet."

Aria nodded thoughtfully and sat back up, continuing to eat her fruits.

Her Dadi left the room with a gentle kiss to her head.

Later that night, Aria curled up in bed, her diary tucked beneath her pillow.

The lights were off, her grandmother long asleep.

But Aria stayed awake, eyes fixed on the ceiling, her mind replaying every moment-every word, every glance.

And for the first time in a long while...

the silence didn't feel so lonely.

It felt... peaceful.

At Shivansh & Saavi's Home
That evening...

Saavi barged into Shivansh's room without knocking, dramatically flopping onto his bed.

Shivansh looked up from his study table and chuckled.

"Tu hamesha asa entry kyu leti hai?"

("Why do you always enter like this?")

"Aap padh rahe ho?" she asked, peeking up at him.

("Are you studying?")

"Haan. Kyun? Kuch kaam hai?" he replied, turning his chair toward her.

("Yeah. Why? You need something?")

Saavi grinned, knowing she had his full attention now.

"Woh na... history wale sir ne aapko kal class mein bulaya hai."

("The history teacher has called you in class tomorrow.")

Shivansh narrowed his eyes. "Kya kiya tune?"

("What did you do?")

"Bhaiyaaa, maine kuch nahi kiya!" she defended quickly. "Main aur Avni bas class mein lunch kar rahe the..."

("Bhaiya, I didn't do anything! Avni and I were just having lunch in class...")

"Class ke beech mein?" Shivansh raised an eyebrow.

("During class?")

"Arey nahi! Starting mein hi kha rahe the... lekin sir aa gaye achanak se... toh firrr..."

("No! Just at the start... but sir suddenly came... so then...")

Shivansh sighed.

"Ek minute-tum aur Avni? Aur woh tumhari new friend... Aria. Woh bhi toh saath baithi thi? Usne nahi khaya?"

("Wait-you and Avni? And your new friend... Aria. She was sitting with you too, right? Didn't she eat?")

"Woh toh washroom gayi thi... aur jab wapas aayi na, sir ne use daant diya. Poor Aria."

("She had gone to the washroom... and when she came back, sir scolded her. Poor Aria.")

Shivansh nodded slowly, a thoughtful expression crossing his face.

"Bhaiyaaa, please kal aajao na class mein," Saavi pleaded. "Nahi toh sir ghar pe call kr denge!"

("Please come to class tomorrow or else sir will call home!")

Shivansh shook his head, smiling.

"Theek hai, drama queen. Aa jaunga."

("Okay, drama queen. I'll come.")

"Hoo gaya tera? Ab main padh loon?" he asked playfully.

("Done now? Can I study?")

"Ek aur baat..." she said. "Aap Rohan bhaiya se baat karo. Kaise baat kar raha tha Aria se aaj..."

("One more thing... talk to Rohan bhaiya. He was being rude to Aria today...")

Shivansh sighed.

"Choti, tujhe pata hai na Rohan ka nature kaisa hai. He just doesn't open up to new people easily. And you know why."

"Haan, bhaiya, I know... but phir bhi. Aria ko bina jaane judge karna theek nahi hai na. She's trying."

("Yes, bhaiya, I know... but still. Judging Aria without knowing her isn't right. She's trying.")

Shivansh leaned back.

"Thik hai. Baat karunga usse. Ab tu ja... apni Economics ki book le aa. Yahan baith, main help kar dunga."

("Fine. I'll talk to him. Now go get your Economics book. Sit here, I'll help you.")

Saavi's eyes widened.

"NAHI! I mean... nahi bhaiya, rehne do. Aap padh lo, main khud padh lungi."

("NO! I mean... no bhaiya, it's okay. You study, I'll do it myself.")

And with that, she sprinted out of the room, leaving Shivansh laughing to himself.

"Pagal."

("Crazy girl.")

---

At Shivansh's Home - Earlier
Before Saavi barged in...

Shivansh stepped out onto the balcony with a mug of coffee, hoping to escape the noise of the house. The evening air was still warm, the sky painted with hints of orange and blue.

His mind replayed today's events... mostly the lunch break and his conversation with Akshat.

Akshat had told him he met Aria before lunch. When she was heading to the washroom.

He had said she was nervous, which was normal-it was her first day and she was homeschooled.

But he also told him she looked hesitant to walk through the crowd.

And something in Aria had caught Shivansh's attention-

something he was still trying to shake off.

At Singhania House (Akshat & Avni)

After dinner, everyone went to their rooms.

Avni sat cross-legged on her bed, picked up her phone, and started texting Saavi.

Avni: Saaviiiii sunnnn

Saavi: Hnn?

Avni: Yaar Aria kaisi lagi tujhe?

(How did you find Aria today?)

Saavi: Bhai theek hai... matlab thodi closed off hai, par new hai isliye. Aur school mein bhi ajeeb lag raha tha use... tune notice kiya?

(She's fine... a bit closed off but new, so understandable. And she seemed awkward in school... did you notice?)

Avni: Hnn kiya tha. Lekin woh homeschooled thi na, isliye.

(Yeah, I did. But she was homeschooled, so that explains it.)

Saavi: Haan yeh bhi hai.

(Yeah, that too.)

Avni: Lekin yaar yeh Rohan pagal hai sach mein... aur aaj tu uski side mat leiyo. Kaisa behave kar raha tha Aria ke saath.

(But yaar, Rohan is really crazy... don't take his side today. The way he behaved with Aria.)

Saavi: Hnn bhai... par maine Shivansh bhaiya se bola Rohan bhaiya se baat karne ke liye.

(Yeah, I told Shivansh bhaiya to talk to Rohan bhaiya.)

Avni: Maine bhi bola bhai se usse baat karne ke liye.

(I told my bhai the same.)

Saavi : achha shi kia..vasa kasa ha mera Dhani🙂‍↕️.

(Author- dhani means husband in rajasthan. Shivansh and Saavi and their family are rajasthani)

Avni: abe tu pagal ha sach mei😂. Dhani? Confess toh kia ni ja raha tujhse. Kha tak puch gai tu😂."

(You are stupid. Dhani? You aren't even able to confess and looking for future.)

Saavi: Abe hattttt. Chal ab tu nikal, mujhe sona de. Byee.

(Shut up. Now let me sleep. Bye)

Avni: Bye. Goodnight.

Saavi reacted with a heart emoji and put her phone aside, drifting off to sleep.
