"Sibling bonds: one part affection, two parts war, and a hundred parts unbreakable."

Elsewhere, as laughter echoed through busy homes, another morning stirred quietly.

She walked with a practiced calm, each step measured, as if her body had learned to silence fear. The soft dawn stretched long shadows across the pavement, curling behind her like secrets waiting to catch up. Too composed-too controlled-as if every instinct had been trained away..

The sun, just cresting the rooftops, cast long, distorted shadows as she stepped onto the pavement. She was heading to school too.

Across the campus, where chaos was routine and laughter louder than bells, five friends were already settling into their usual rhythm-unaware that something had shifted. A quiet ripple was about to touch their world.

________

The corridor was empty - just the two of them, standing too close under flickering lights.

Akshat stepped forward, voice low.

"Why do you always pretend like you don't feel anything, Saavi?"

Her breath caught. "Because feeling something for you... it scares me."

He gently took her hand, eyes never leaving hers.

"You don't have to be scared. Not with me."

His thumb brushed over her knuckles - slow, deliberate.

"Akshat..." she whispered, heart pounding,

"...if I fall-"

He leaned in, forehead brushing hers.

"I'll catch you."

Their lips were just inches apart.

So close.

His breath hovered against her skin-warm, steady, carrying promises he wasn't brave enough to voice.

SPLASH!

Saavi jolted awake with a sharp gasp, her heart racing. Icy water slid down her neck, stealing the last threads of warmth from her skin. For a moment she froze-caught between dream and reality-before blinking furiously, water splashing into her eyes.

Her hair clung to her face, drenched. For a moment, she sat frozen, blinking rapidly as droplets slid into her eyes. Then she looked up.

Her older brothers, Aditya and Shivansh, stood at the foot of her bed, empty buckets in hand and mischief dancing in their eyes.

"What is wrong with you two?" she shrieked. "I was sleeping so well-having the best dream!"

Water sloshed as she grabbed a slipper and bolted after them.

"Idhar aao! I'll show you what a real nightmare feels like!" she roared, chasing them down the hall like a drenched hurricane.

---

Downstairs, Rajveer and Sonali were sipping tea when Saavi stomped in, dripping wet, and flopped onto the couch.

"Papa! Look what these two did!" she wailed dramatically.

Rajveer looked at his soaked daughter, then at the two guilty faces peeking from the staircase.

"Oye, langooron!" he called, trying not to laugh. "Why would you wake up my princess with water?"

Shivansh raised both hands. "Revenge, Papa. She turned off our ACs last night!"

"And fans," Aditya added. "We barely slept!"

Rajveer raised an eyebrow at Saavi, who immediately pouted and widened her eyes like a child caught red-handed.

"Papa, aap inki side mat lo! Main toh aapki pyariii beti hoon na? Jab mummy se aapki ladaai hoti hai, main toh hamesha aapki side leti hoon. Papa, we are a team!"

She leaned into him, nudging his shoulder playfully.

("Dad, don't take their side! I'm your darling daughter, right? Whenever you fight with Mom, I always take your side. We're a team!")

Rajveer burst out laughing, and Sonali joined in. Aditya and Shivansh exchanged mock-annoyed glances and rolled their eyes.

"Haan haan, Saavi ki toh koi galti nahi hoti. Sab tum dono langooron ki hi galti hai," Rajveer said dramatically.

("Yeah, yeah, Saavi never does anything wrong. It's always you two monkeys at fault.")

He turned to Aditya, faking seriousness.

"Aur Aditya, tujhe sharam nahi aayi? 26 saal ka ho gaya hai, shaadi ko ek saal ho gaya... ghar mein biwi hai, aur tu apni behen ke saath aise prank kar raha hai?"

("And Aditya, aren't you ashamed? You're 26 now, married for a year... You have a wife at home, and you're still playing pranks with your sister?")

Aditya chuckled.

"Papa, jis biwi ki aap baat kar rahe ho, usne hi toh Saavi ki madad ki thi kal raat hamara A.C band karne mein!"

("Dad, the wife you're talking about was the one who helped Saavi turn off our AC last night!"")

---

Sonali laughed and called Tanya.

"Tanya beta, idhar aao."

(Tanya dear, come here.")

A beautiful woman appeared, eyes still heavy with sleep. Her wrinkled pajamas and loose, soft hair framed her dreamy face. She walked in slowly and sat beside Sonali, resting her head lovingly on her shoulder.

"Ji maa?" she mumbled gently.

("Yes, mom"?)

Sonali smiled, looking at her daughter-in-law fondly, and brushed Tanya's hair aside.

"Beta, tumne Saavi ki help ki thi kal in dono ka A.C. band karne mein?"

("Dear, did you help Saavi turn off the AC in these two's rooms last night?"")

Tanya nodded sleepily.

"Haan mummy, Saavi ne bola 'bhabhi help kar do' toh maine kar di... ab main apni nanad ki baat thodi taal sakti hoon," she said with innocent sincerity, a small smile forming on her lips.

("Yes, Mom," Saavi asked, 'Bhabhi, help me' so I helped her... I couldn't possibly refuse my sister-in-law.")

Everyone laughed at her adorably honest tone.

Aditya shook his head with a smile.

"Ya meri biwi kaam aur Saavi ki bhabhi zyada ban gayi hai."

("My wife has become more of Saavi's bhabhi than my partner!")

"Okay, enough fun," Sonali clapped. "Saavi, Ansh - school ke liye tayyar ho jao!"

Saavi stuck her foot out just in time to trip Shivansh again on the way to her room.

"2-1!" she yelled proudly.

---

Outside Avni's room, Akshat stood impatiently, his foot tapping against the floor. His brow furrowed, eyes darting toward the wall clock. The pressure of the ticking time made his voice sharp as he knocked louder.

"Avniii oyeeee uth ja yaarrrr! Main late ho jaunga... uth ja meri bhennaaaaa!"

he called out, frustration creeping into his tone.

(Avniii hey wake up yaarrr! I'm going to be late... wake up my sisterrrrr!")

Running a hand through his hair, he sighed deeply, struggling to stay calm.

"Yaar uth ja, dekh 6:30 ho gaye hain. 7:30 baje nikalna hai school ke liye... aur tujhe toh 10 ghante lagte hain nahaane mein! Vo alag baat ha ki tu fir bhi bina nahaye lagti hai!"

("Yaar, wake up! Look, it's 6:30. We have to leave for school by 7:30... and you take 10 hours to shower! Although honestly, you still look like you didn't!")

From inside came Avni's groggy, annoyed voice,

"Hmmm, uth gayi bhai," she said calmly but then snapped...

"aur kutta, zyada bakwas mat kar samjha kya? Ja yahan se, bola na uth gayi. Aya badaaa... BHAGGG!"

("Hmm, I'm up, bhai" and you dog, stop blabbering, got it? Go away! I said I'm up. Acting all big now... GET LOST!")

Akshat sighed in defeat, a fond smile tugging at his lips despite the chaos. He shook his head.

Even half-asleep, she hadn't let go of her sass.

"Theek hai, uth ja," he muttered, turning away but still glancing back at the door as he left, mumbling to himself,

("Okay, get up then,")

"Kya din aa gaye hain... alarm se zyada attitude sunne ko milta hai subah-subah."

("What days we've come to... I get more attitude than alarm sounds in the morning.")

---

Avni dragged herself out of bed and got ready for school.

She wore her school uniform - black pants, a white shirt - and left her shoulder-length hair open. She glanced at the wall clock.

7:25.

Her eyes widened in panic. She hadn't even had breakfast yet! She bolted downstairs in a hurry.

In the kitchen, her mother Kritika was setting the breakfast table while her father Ashmit had already started eating.

"Baccha kahaan hai?" he asked his wife between bites.

(Where's the kid?")

"Aur kahaan? Tumhari ladli humesha ki tarah late hai... aur beta humsa ki tarah late hone pe panic kar raha hai," Kritika said, chuckling.

("Where else? Your darling is late as always... and son is panicking over being late just like always.")

Ashmit nodded, smiling. Just then, Akshat entered for breakfast.

"Good morning, Papa. Good morning, Mummy," he said, touching their feet before sitting down to eat.

"Morning," they replied together, smiling fondly at their son.

"Kahaan hai Maharani ji?" Kritika asked.

(Where's the princess?")

"Abhi-abhi uthi hai, Mummy. Das minute tak uska room ka door knock karta raha tab jaake uthi. Aur uthane ke baad bhi mujhe hi sunane lagi," Akshat said with an eye-roll.

("She just woke up, Mummy. I kept knocking on her door for ten minutes before she got up. And even then, she started yelling at me instead.")

Ashmit laughed out loud.

"Tum zyada haso mat! Tumne hi toh bigaada hai usse," Kritika scolded playfully.

("Don't laugh too much! You're the one who spoiled her,")

"Bigaada toh tumhein bhi tha, Kriti,"

("I have spoiled you too kriti".)

Ashmit replied cheekily, making Kritika smile and roll her eyes.

"Haan haan bas, beta baitha hai samne sharam kro" she said, still smiling.

("Yeah yeah, have some shame our son is sitting right here, remember,")

The three of them laughed together - until Avni dashed in like a storm.

"Sab logon ko GOODDD MORNINGGG!" she sang dramatically, flopping into her seat.

("GOODDD MORNINGGG to everyone!")

"Tu kabhi time se uth sakti hai? Ek din bhi? Sharam aati hai tujhe? Tera bhai school ka discipline in-charge hai, aur tu khud late jaati hai! Aur saath mein mujhe bhi late karti hai," Akshat scolded.

("Can you ever wake up on time? Even once? Have some shame! Your brother is the school's discipline in-charge, and you go late! And drag me down with you!")

"Ohh! Aya bada! Zyada bakwaas mat kar samjha kya? Tu akela nahi hai discipline in-charge. Shivansh bhaiya bhi hai. Aur woh toh kuch nahi bolte mujhe. Aur hum kabhi late nahi hote. School time pe hi toh pahunchtay hain!" she fired back.

("Oh please! Acting all important! Stop your nonsense, okay? You're not the only discipline in-charge. Shivansh bhaiya is too, and he never says anything to me. We're never late - we reach school on time!")

Before the argument could escalate, Kritika gave them the glare- her famous death-stare - and both fell silent instantly.

Ashmit chuckled.

____

After breakfast, the siblings got ready to leave. Avni wore her helmet and turned to her mother dramatically.

"Mummy, isse bol do bike slow chalaye! Mere baal kharab ho jaate hain. Aise chalata hai jaise sadak uske baap ki ho."

("Mummy, tell him to drive the bike slowly! My hair gets ruined. He drives like he owns the road.")

"Akshat beta, bike dheere chalao," Kritika said, patting his shoulder.

(Akshat beta, ride the bike slowly,")

They left for school - fighting all the way, as always.

To annoy her, Akshat even sped up a bit, making Avni scream and hit him on the back.

Eventually, they reached school, right on time. Shivansh and Saavi arrived at the same moment.

---

At school, Shivansh and Saavi met Avni and Akshat at the gate.

The girls hugged like they hadn't seen each other in years, and the boys shared a quick fist bump.

"Chalo andar, drama queens," Shivansh called out.

(Lets go in drama queens)

They exchanged morning hugs - a tradition - before splitting into classrooms.

---

Inside their classroom, Shivansh, Akshat , and Rohan sat down.

The classroom buzzed with chatter, bags unzipping in sync as sunlight slanted through dusty windows.

"Late ho gaye ho tum dono aaj," Rohan said grumpily.

(You both are late today)

"Arey wahi roj ka - Avni uth hi nahi rahi thi. Bohot mushkil se uthi," Akshat replied, shaking his head.

(Aree daily drama..Avni was not waking up.)

"Aur Saavi bhi roz kuch na kuch drama karti hai," Shivansh added.

(And Saavi also starts new drama daily.)

Rohan nodded, a small smile forming on his lips as he listened to them talk about their sisters.

Being an only child, he had always longed for a sibling.

Though Saavi was like sister to him - she tied him rakhi every year - there was still a part of him that silently wished for a younger sister of his own.

.....

The morning settled into its usual rhythm. Teachers entered, the classroom buzzed with chatter, and bags were unzipped in sync like clockwork.

Shivansh nudged Rohan playfully.

"Aaj itna silent kyun hai, Mr. Grumpy? Avni se morning ladai nhi hui?"

(Why so silent today mr grumpy?)

Rohan gave a faint chuckle.

"Nahi yaar... bas aise hi. Tum logon ko dekhkar achha lagta hai - itna masti, itna drama... sab kuch."

(Nothing bro...seeing you all siblings.. it feels good..)

Akshat leaned forward from his seat.

"Toh tu bhi kar le drama. Kya problem hai?"

(Then you also do same..who have stopped you?

Rohan smiled and shook his head.

His eyes trailed to the hallway, where Saavi and Avni were giggling about something. Their laughter echoed faintly through the open door - loud, unfiltered, and filled with life.

"Saavi toh teri rakhi behen hai hi," Shivansh said, his voice softening knowing what he is thinking.

(Saavi always tie rakhi to you anyway)

"Aur jab hum log tere saath hote hain... tu kabhi akela nahi hota, Rohan. Real sibling nhi toh kya hua real dost toh ha hi. Some bonds are by choice, not by blood. We are that chosen family. So Mr. Captain zyda depressing muh mat bana ab."

(And when we're with you... you're never really alone, Rohan. Even if you don't have a real sibling, you've got real friends. Some bonds aren't made by blood-they're made by choice. We are that chosen family. So, Mr. Captain, stop making that depressing face now!")

Rohan looked up at his friend - his brother, really - and a slow smile spread across his face.

"Aur kya chahiye... jab dost hi family ban jaayein," he said quietly.

(What else I need when friends becomes family.)

The bell rang.

Students scrambled to settle, and the teacher walked in, beginning the lesson.

But for a brief moment, in that soft morning light streaming through the windows, the air was still - filled with quiet love, unspoken gratitude, and the invisible thread that wove this chaotic group together.

Because in this world full of madness, heartbreak, and noise - this bond, this friendship, this family by choice - was the calm they didn't know they needed.

And the best part?

The day was just beginning.

---

But while they laughed, unaware, somewhere else another story was unfolding. A quiet figure stepped into their world-one whose silence hid more than sorrow.

Somewhere else, the day had begun in silence. No laughter spilled through windows, no arms reached for one another. Warmth was a memory tucked away, love hidden behind practiced smiles. Silence wasn't emptiness-it was armor. Routine wasn't comfort-it was survival.

Her eyes darted once across the empty corridor, then down. Her fingers curled around the strap of her bag, knuckles whitening just enough to betray the calm on her face. Every breath was weighed, every glance cautious, as if the world had taught her to flinch before it even touched her.

And as she stepped into their world, everything was about to change - for her, and for them.

---

Five hearts tied in laughter... until she arrived.

A girl whose silence cut deeper than words.

Secrets layered beneath scars.

A guarded heart-and a storm waiting to break.๐Ÿฅ€๐ŸŒธ
